What I know about peer-to-peer networks is the user interface runs outside of a Web browser, computers in the system act as both clients and servers. It is easy to use and includes tools to support users wanting to create content or add functionality. The application makes connections with other users and does something new and exciting. It also supports “cross-network” protocols like SOAP or XML-RPC. My experiences with P2P networks have been to download music. I found this to cause a problem on my computer which I have enabled since. But I have used it for downloading music.
These networks are not legal and there are consequences to using these networks. What makes this illegal is the music is being shared but not paid for. So the people who produce these songs are not receiving the proper credit (money) for the songs you are downloading. I feel it is right for the government to crack down on those downloading music illegally. I know if I was the producer of the music being illegally downloaded then I would be upset if most of my work is being heard for free. I would want something done about it. The University does not allow sharing of music. They find this to be very wrong and there are consequences if you are caught.
