Experiences with Online Auctions

The experience I have had with online auctioning was with eBay. To obtain access to these auctions you have to register for an eBay account. To do this you must fill out some information about yourself and provide an account name and password. This keeps your information safe from other people. Also, you will need to have a credit card to purchase the items you buy.

EBay prefers you to have a Pay Pal account so that your information is safe and protected. A Pay Pal account is an account that allows you to purchase items using your card, but through Pay Pal it is safe from hackers and is guaranteed. It is a safe, easier way to pay without exposing your credit card or bank account number. You have to 18 or older to have an eBay account.

I have had many experiences with an eBay account. I have my own user name and have bought many items from this site. It is a easier way to find cheaper items online, rather then purchasing them in stores. Sometimes you are able to find items at lower cost then you would on the website or store where the item is sold.

Peer-to-Peer Networks

What I know about peer-to-peer networks is the user interface runs outside of a Web browser, computers in the system act as both clients and servers. It is easy to use and includes tools to support users wanting to create content or add functionality. The application makes connections with other users and does something new and exciting. It also supports “cross-network” protocols like SOAP or XML-RPC. My experiences with P2P networks have been to download music. I found this to cause a problem on my computer which I have enabled since. But I have used it for downloading music.

These networks are not legal and there are consequences to using these networks. What makes this illegal is the music is being shared but not paid for. So the people who produce these songs are not receiving the proper credit (money) for the songs you are downloading. I feel it is right for the government to crack down on those downloading music illegally. I know if I was the producer of the music being illegally downloaded then I would be upset if most of my work is being heard for free. I would want something done about it. The University does not allow sharing of music. They find this to be very wrong and there are consequences if you are caught.

Compare Google Docs

Google Docs is quit similar to Microsoft Word. Two features that are similar to Microsoft Word that Google Docs has is the availability to save your document to a disk. This allows you to save your document to a disk that you can open on any computer. Another feature they both have is the bullet input. This allows you to indent your work with bullets.

Microsoft Word allows you to format your document a lot more then Google Docs does. Some features that Word has that Google Docs does not have is: subscripts, shading, sorting, multi leveling, & much more. Google Docs has limited formatting features. These basic features include: save, print, font & font size, bold, italicize, underline, ECT.

Two advantages to using Google Docs over Microsoft Word is: you are able to access this saved document at any computer if you do not have a floppy disk to save it to because it is saved to the site. Another advantage is since it is so much less advanced as Microsoft Word it would be easier for the older generation to use if they are not familiar with up to date computer programs. Two disadvantages to using Google Docs over Microsoft Word is that Word is way more advanced and it allows you to do many more features to your document then Google Docs lets you. Another disadvantage is that Microsoft allows you to save your documents to many different types of hard drives. Some examples are a flash drive, the desktop, or a floppy disk.

Online Storage

The company I chose is photobucket.com. It is a photo storage page where you are able to upload your photos to their website. They supply you with a four different ways to post your photo's on: email & IM, direct link, HTML code, or IMG code. This allows you to show your photo's on many different sites and different ways.

Having a photo bucket name is free. Being on their site and uploading your own photos on their site is free also. There is no yearly charge to sign up either.

Some pros for using a web-based storage is, you are able to always have your photos even if your computer is to crash one day. Another pro is it allows you to have different link options that will allow you to post your picture on different sites. Some cons of using a web-based storage is your photos are up there where anyone can look at them if you forget to logout of your name. Also, another con is that it is not certain that this site will forever exist. So if you are dependent on this site it may one day be gone along with all your photos you have uploaded on it.

Web Browsing

My experience with web browsing for my project was pretty easy. The search tool I used was Google.com. It is a very easy search engine that allows you to find a number of websites that relate to your topic of choice.
The word I used in the search engine was Dooney & Bourke. Dooney & Bourke is a type of designer purse. They are expensive designer purses. The number of searches I found were 1,530,000 and all websites were relevant to my search topic.
The first hit I recieved was the home site of Dooney & Bourke designer purses. To reduce the number of hits on google search I could put in a certain type of Dooney & Bourke purse. By doing this you are able to still visit the home site of Dooney & Bourke but to that particular purse type.
